The Defense Industries Corporation (DICON) has been producing Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles since 2022, showcasing Nigeria's ambition to strengthen its local production capacity and contribute to the defense sector. Nigeria's former Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai, has pledged that the Nigerian Army will begin exporting combat vehicles to other African countries by 2030. Epail Nigeria, a dedicated manufacturing facility, produces bulletproof vests, ballistic helmets, and other defense-related equipment. Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company Ltd, one of Nigeria's foremost vehicle manufacturers, offers a diverse range of products and has collaborated with the Nigerian Army to conceptualize, design, modify, and produce armored fighting vehicles and other military hardware.

The growth of Africa's locally-made vehicle manufacturing industry is driven by urbanization, a growing middle class, supportive policies, and expanded trade. The continent's automotive market was projected to hit $20.5 billion in 2024 and is expected to grow to $26.3 billion by 2029. South Africa, Morocco, and Egypt are leading in vehicle manufacturing and assembly, with Nigeria making notable strides in the industry.
