MTN Nigeria, the country's largest mobile network operator, has confirmed plans to build its new headquarters in Eko Atlantic City, a 10-square-kilometer city in Lagos, Nigeria. This move marks a significant investment in the region and signals confidence in Eko Atlantic's potential as a premier business hub.

The announcement was made by MTN Nigeria CEO Karl Toriola at the MyLagosApp launch event in Lagos. Toriola stated that the company has acquired a piece of land in Eko Atlantic City and will commence construction once the necessary equipment is in place. This development comes four years after the company first announced plans to build a new head office.

Eko Atlantic City, launched in 2008, aims to become Lagos' most advanced commercial hub. The city's modern infrastructure and strategic location have attracted corporations, real estate investors, and high-profile organizations seeking a well-planned business environment. MTN Nigeria is the first telecom operator to build in the coastal city, joining a growing list of large firms relocating to Eko Atlantic, including First Bank, Access Bank, and Dangote Group. The United States Embassy is also developing a new diplomatic facility in the city.

The construction cost of MTN Nigeria's new headquarters was not disclosed, but sources estimate it to be in the millions of dollars. Land prices in Eko Atlantic City vary based on size, location, and intended use. For instance, a 3,336 square-meter plot was listed on propertypro.ng for ₦5 billion, translating to about $1,200 per square meter.

In addition to its new headquarters, MTN Nigeria is also constructing West Africa's largest Tier 4 data center in Lagos. The facility will house 1,500 racks and operate as a carrier-neutral hub, allowing multiple Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and cloud service providers to interconnect. However, Toriola confirmed that the data center will not be situated within Eko Atlantic but on the Lagos mainland.

The data center, with seven degrees of connectivity, will be the most sophisticated data hub in the region, further strengthening Nigeria's position as a leader in digital transformation. This development is expected to have a significant impact on the region's digital landscape and economy.
