DC Comics fans are in for a treat as Mike Flanagan, the mastermind behind The Haunting of Hill House, has signed on to write a new Clayface feature for DC Studios. According to Variety, the project will be produced by Matt Reeves and Lynn Harris' company 6th & Idaho, with Warner Bros. Discovery aiming to start filming next year.
The move comes as no surprise, given DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn's vision to create a vast and interconnected cinematic universe. Gunn has emphasized the importance of storytelling across various platforms, including animation and live-action, with actors often reprising their roles in different formats. This approach is already being seen in Creature Commandos, where Viola Davis has reprised her role as Amanda Waller, and Frank Grillo is voicing Rick Flagg Sr. ahead of portraying the same role in Peacemaker's upcoming second season.
Clayface, a shape-shifting villain, has been gaining popularity on Max's Harley Quinn series, voiced by Alan Tudyk. While it's unclear whether Tudyk will reprise his role in the live-action feature, his involvement in Creature Commandos as Doctor Phosphorous and Will Magnus raises questions about his potential involvement in the film. However, given the show's tendency to cycle through DC's weirder characters, it's possible that Tudyk's role may not be a guarantee.
The Clayface movie is a significant development in DC Studios' plans to expand its cinematic universe. By exploring a wide range of stories and characters, the studio is taking a bold step towards creating a rich and immersive world that will captivate audiences across different platforms. With Mike Flanagan at the helm, fans can expect a unique and thrilling take on the Clayface character, which will undoubtedly add to the excitement surrounding DC Studios' ambitious plans.
As the DC cinematic universe continues to take shape, fans are eagerly awaiting more announcements and developments. With James Gunn's commitment to building a vast and interconnected world, the possibilities are endless, and the Clayface movie is just the beginning of an exciting new chapter in the world of DC Comics.
Stay tuned for more updates on the Clayface movie and DC Studios' plans for their cinematic universe.
