Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Gets Nintendo Switch 2 Edition with Enhanced Graphics and Mouse Mode

Nintendo has announced a special edition of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, titled the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, which will offer an additional control option and quality/performance graphics modes. This news comes on the heels of a major new look at the game during last week's Nintendo Direct, which showcased the planet Viewros and Samus Aran's new physic powers.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will allow players to use the Joy-Con controller's mouse functionality, a feature that has sparked curiosity among gamers. This control option could potentially enhance the gameplay experience, especially when navigating through the game's environments.

In terms of graphics, the Switch 2 Edition will offer two modes: quality and performance. The quality mode will enable players to experience the game at 4K and 60fps with HDR while docked, and at 1080p and 60fps with HDR in handheld mode. The performance mode, on the other hand, will allow for 1080p and 120fps with HDR while docked, and 720p and 120fps with HDR in handheld mode.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has had a long and tumultuous development cycle, with the game first being revealed in 2017, shortly after the original Switch was released. However, Nintendo announced in 2019 that it would be rebooting the title with Retro Studios on board. The game finally got its first gameplay footage last year, which showed promising signs.

For fans of the Metroid series, there's also some good news: Metroid Prime Remastered, which was released in 2023, is an excellent remaster of the original classic and can help fill the gap until Metroid Prime 4: Beyond launches later this year.

The announcement of the Switch 2 Edition of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is a significant one, as it highlights Nintendo's continued efforts to push the boundaries of gaming on its console. With the Switch 2's enhanced specs, including a 1080p 120Hz display and 4K dock, the company is clearly committed to providing gamers with a premium experience.

As we await the launch of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, it's clear that Nintendo is gearing up for a big year. With the Switch 2's release and a slew of new games on the horizon, the company is poised to make a significant impact on the gaming industry.
