Meta AI Expands to Middle East and North Africa, Adds Arabic Language Support

Meta has officially expanded its AI-enabled chatbot, Meta AI, to the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, making it available to millions more people. This move marks a significant milestone in the company's gradual rollout plans for additional markets around the world.

In October, Meta announced that it was launching Meta AI in six additional markets, including Brazil and the U.K. At the time, the company hinted at plans to expand to other regions, including MENA. With this latest expansion, Meta AI is now available in 10 countries across the MENA region, including Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Libya, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Yemen.

In addition to its geographic expansion, Meta is also introducing Arabic language support for Meta AI. This move is expected to increase the chatbot's accessibility and usability for users in the MENA region. Users can summon the virtual assistant by tagging @meta in a chat on apps like Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger, although availability varies by region.

Meta AI offers a range of features, including recommending places to visit nearby or songs to include in a playlist for a road trip. The company plans to introduce more features in the MENA region, including "Imagine Me," which creates stylistic selfies of users, and audio dubbing for Instagram Reels. Meta aims to make its AI features multimodal in the region, providing users with a more comprehensive and engaging experience.

With this expansion, Meta AI is now available in 42 countries across 13 languages, with over 700 million users across its various apps, including WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, and Facebook. While the exact feature set available in each market may vary, Meta's continued expansion of Meta AI demonstrates its commitment to making AI technology more accessible and widely available.

It's worth noting that Meta AI's feature set is limited in some European countries, such as on its Ray-Ban Meta AR glasses, due to data privacy regulations. This highlights the importance of tailoring AI features to specific regional requirements and regulations.

As Meta continues to expand its AI capabilities, it will be interesting to see how the technology is adopted and utilized in different regions. With its growing presence in the MENA region, Meta is well-positioned to tap into the region's growing demand for AI-powered solutions.

The expansion of Meta AI to the MENA region marks a significant step forward in the company's mission to make AI more accessible and widely available. As the technology continues to evolve and improve, it will be exciting to see the innovative ways in which users in the region will utilize Meta AI to enhance their daily lives.
