May Mobility Unveils Autonomous Electric Minibus at CES 2025

May Mobility, a leading autonomous vehicle technology startup, made a significant announcement at CES 2025, unveiling its latest addition to its portfolio: an electric, autonomous minibus developed in partnership with European electric bus manufacturer Tecnobus. This new vehicle marks a significant expansion of May Mobility's capabilities, offering a larger capacity and more versatile solution for urban transit, corporate campuses, airports, and planned communities.

The new minibus, designed to carry up to 30 passengers, including those with wheelchairs, boasts swappable batteries that minimize downtime, making it an attractive option for high-demand transportation services. Notably, the vehicle has already received approval for use in Europe and Canada, paving the way for potential international deployments.

May Mobility's current fleet consists of 40 retrofitted Toyota Sienna minivans, which can seat up to eight passengers. The introduction of the Tecnobus minibus will significantly increase the startup's capacity, with plans to integrate the new vehicles into its fleet by late 2026. While the exact number of buses to be added is yet to be disclosed, the company's expansion plans are clear.

May Mobility has established a strong presence in various markets, operating shuttle services with a driver behind the wheel in cities such as Arlington, Texas; Detroit, Michigan; and Grand Rapids, Minnesota. The company has also made inroads in Japan, where it has partnered with telecom company NTT for an autonomous vehicle (AV) pilot in Nagoya, and has active deployments in Tokyo and Fukuoka.

In a significant milestone, May Mobility recently launched a small-scale driverless shuttle deployment in Ann Arbor, testing its capabilities without a human driver in the front seat. This development marks a crucial step towards fully autonomous transportation services.

The introduction of the Tecnobus minibus signals a significant shift in May Mobility's capabilities, enabling the company to cater to a broader range of transportation needs. As the autonomous vehicle market continues to evolve, May Mobility's expansion into new markets and technologies will be closely watched by industry observers.

With its commitment to providing safe, efficient, and accessible transportation solutions, May Mobility is poised to play a key role in shaping the future of urban mobility. As the company continues to push the boundaries of autonomous technology, its impact on the transportation landscape is likely to be significant.
