LG Hotel TVs to Support Both Google Cast and Apple AirPlay, a First in the Industry

LG has announced a significant upgrade to its hotel TVs, making it easier for guests to stream content from their personal devices. The company's hotel TVs will now support both Google Cast and Apple AirPlay, a first in the industry.

This integration allows guests to scan a QR code with their phone and start streaming video or music directly to the TV from a familiar user interface. This eliminates the need to enter personal information or login details into the TV itself, ensuring a seamless and secure experience. LG has also implemented network isolation to maintain privacy between hotel rooms, and connections will be severed upon checkout.

The inclusion of Google Cast support is a significant development, as some hotels, such as Hyatt, have already adopted customized hospitality Chromecast hardware to offer similar functionality. LG's approach, however, integrates casting directly into the TV, eliminating the need for additional hardware.

According to Paik Ki-mun, head of LG's information display business, "Many hotel guests nowadays wish to stream their favorite content from a personal device to their in-room TV. With LG Hotel TVs integrating Google Cast, they can enjoy a secure and convenient content-streaming experience, just like they're used to at home."

The Google Cast support will be available on LG Hotel TVs running webOS23 or later, which covers all of the company's models from 2023 onwards, as well as a selection of 2022 models via updates. This means that guests can expect a consistent streaming experience across LG's hotel TV range, provided the TVs have received the necessary updates.

This development has significant implications for the hospitality industry, as it enhances the overall guest experience and provides a competitive edge for hotels that adopt LG's technology. With the rise of streaming services and the increasing demand for personalized entertainment options, LG's innovation is well-positioned to meet the evolving needs of hotel guests.

In conclusion, LG's integration of Google Cast and Apple AirPlay support on its hotel TVs marks a significant milestone in the industry. As the first manufacturer to offer both options, LG is poised to revolutionize the hotel TV experience, providing guests with a seamless and secure way to stream their favorite content.
