LG Expands Wireless TV Tech to Mini LED Models, Adds AI Features in 2025

LG is set to expand its wireless TV technology to its Mini LED models in 2025, making its Zero Connect Box feature no longer exclusive to OLED TVs. The company's Zero Connect Box, which debuted with the M Series OLED in 2023, allows for wireless transmission of audio and video to the TV panel, leaving only the power cable connected.

The Zero Connect Box is capable of transmitting 4K video at up to 144Hz, making it suitable for gaming. According to reviews, the technology works seamlessly without any issues. This expansion to Mini LED models marks a significant step in making the technology more accessible to a wider range of consumers.

In addition to the wireless tech, LG is also introducing a range of AI-powered features to its 2025 TVs. One of the most notable changes is the addition of an AI button on the Magic Remote, which replaces the traditional inputs button. The AI button allows users to access relevant keywords and TV features with a short press, and enables personalized searches based on a large language model (LLM4) with a long press.

The AI features also include advanced upscaling, fine-tuned HDR, and the conversion of two-channel stereo sources to a virtualized 9.1.2-channel sound output. LG claims that its AI technology can better distinguish voices from background noise, making them clearer. While the practicality of these features is yet to be seen, they represent a significant push into AI-powered TV technology.

LG has also announced that it is ditching quantum dots in favor of a "proprietary wide color gamut technology, Dynamic QNED Color Solution" that supposedly produces "pure colors that are as realistic as they appear to the eye in general life." The implications of this change are yet to be seen, but it marks a significant shift in LG's approach to color technology.

As with many CES TV announcements, pricing and release details for the 2025 QNED Evo lineup are still unknown. However, with CES just around the corner, we can expect to hear more about LG's latest TVs and get some first-hand impressions of the new technology.

The expansion of LG's wireless TV technology and the introduction of AI-powered features mark a significant shift in the company's approach to TV innovation. As the TV market continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how these features are received by consumers and how they impact the overall TV landscape.
