LG Display Unveils Brightest OLED TV Panel Yet, Capable of 4,000 Nits

LG Display has officially unveiled its latest OLED TV panel, which is capable of reaching an unprecedented maximum brightness of 4,000 nits. This fourth-generation panel marks a significant improvement over its predecessor, with a 33% increase in brightness. The new technology is already being featured in some of 2025's most anticipated TVs, including the LG G5 and Panasonic's Z95B.

Interestingly, it was Panasonic that initially shared details about LG Display's latest OLED panel at this year's CES, even before LG Display's official announcement. This unusual situation highlighted the significance of the new technology, which is expected to be a game-changer in the TV industry.

According to LG Display, the new panel's innovation centers around its proprietary Primary RGB Tandem structure, which uses independent stacks of RGB elements to produce light. This design improvement allows for a four-layer structure, increasing the amount of light produced by each layer compared to the previous three-stack light source structure.

The latest-gen OLED display achieves its remarkable brightness without relying on micro-lens array technology. Instead, it employs "ultra-low reflective technology" to minimize distractions, opting for a traditional glossy finish. This approach differs from Samsung Display's QD-OLED screen, which features a glare-free display finish.

In addition to its impressive brightness, the fourth-gen LG Display OLED panel also boasts improved energy efficiency and a 40% increase in color brightness, reaching 2,100 nits. While these peak brightness numbers are technically possible, it remains to be seen whether TV manufacturers like Panasonic will fully utilize this capability in their consumer sets.

Despite the ongoing "OLED brightness wars" between LG Display and Samsung Display, the advancements in OLED technology continue to impress. The latest developments promise to deliver even more vibrant and immersive viewing experiences, while retaining OLED's trademark strengths, including perfect blacks, fantastic viewing angles, and fast response times for gaming.

Additionally, Samsung Display's CES showcase, covered by Sean Hollister, provides an interesting counterpoint to LG Display's latest innovation.

As the TV industry continues to evolve, LG Display's latest OLED panel is poised to play a significant role in shaping the future of home entertainment. With its unprecedented brightness and improved performance, this technology is sure to captivate consumers and set a new standard for TV manufacturers.
