At the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025, Lenovo has unveiled a groundbreaking concept laptop, the Yoga Solar PC, which features a built-in solar panel on its lid. This innovative design allows users to harness light from any source to boost the laptop's battery, making it an ideal solution for those who want to work outdoors while reducing their dependence on power cables.
The Yoga Solar PC's solar panel is composed of 84 solar cells with a Back Contact cell design, which enables it to achieve a conversion rate of more than 24 percent. This is more efficient than most silicone-based solar panels used in consumer electronics today. According to Lenovo, the panel can absorb and convert enough solar energy from direct sunlight in 20 minutes to power up to one hour of video playback.
The laptop itself is powered by an Intel Lunar Lake processor, paired with 32GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. It measures 15 millimeters thick and weighs around 2.29 pounds, making it a portable and lightweight solution for users on-the-go. The 14-inch OLED display is also a notable feature, providing users with a high-quality visual experience.
Lenovo has also developed a Dynamic Solar Tracking system software, which shows users how much current and voltage the solar panel is producing. This feature helps users optimize their energy harvesting and make the most of the available light.
In addition to the Yoga Solar PC, Lenovo has also revealed an external solar power kit concept, designed for existing Yoga laptop users who want to reduce their battery anxiety while working outdoors. This standalone solution features a pair of side-by-side solar panels that can be attached to a backpack or stand on its own with a fold-out kickstand. It can connect and deliver power to a device with a USB-C cable or charge an included power bank that can power other devices later.
While Lenovo has not announced plans to put the Yoga Solar PC or the external solar power kit into production, the concept is an exciting step towards bridging the gap between functionality and environmental awareness. As the company continues to explore alternative energy sources, it's likely that we'll see more innovative solutions in the future.
The Yoga Solar PC concept is a testament to Lenovo's commitment to innovation and sustainability. As the world becomes increasingly focused on reducing our carbon footprint, it's exciting to see technology companies pushing the boundaries of what's possible. Whether or not the Yoga Solar PC makes it to market, it's clear that Lenovo is dedicated to creating products that not only meet our needs but also help us live more sustainably.
