National carrier Kenya Airways has suspended all flights to Mauritius due to worsening weather conditions caused by an approaching tropical cyclone. The airline made the decision following a Class 3 cyclone warning issued by the Mauritius Meteorological Service (MMS), which predicts gale-force winds, heavy rainfall, and rough seas in the region.

The cyclone, named Garance, is expected to bring northeasterly winds of approximately 40 kilometres per hour (km/h), with gusts reaching up to 100 km/h, increasing in intensity over time. The sea is expected to become extremely rough, with waves reaching heights of up to 7 metres. A Class 3 cyclone warning indicates the potential for wind speeds of 120–165 km/h, posing a serious risk to infrastructure, transportation, and public safety.

Under such conditions, take-offs and landings become highly hazardous, necessitating the suspension of flights. The airline operates daily flights to Mauritius from its Jomo Kenyatta International Airport hub and has apologized to customers for any inconvenience this may cause. "We sincerely apologise to our customers for any inconvenience this may cause and want to reassure them that their safety and that of our staff remains our top priority," the airline said in a statement.

The suspension of flights will remain in place indefinitely until conditions stabilize. The Mauritius government has also closed the country's main airport, Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (MRU), leaving many tourists stranded. The cyclone has already caused significant disruptions in Mauritius, and authorities are advising airlines and travellers to stay updated on further developments.
