A Philadelphia judge has declined to block Elon Musk's America PAC's $1 million voter giveaways, just hours before the polls open. The decision comes despite allegations of deceptive marketing, with the PAC admitting that prize winners are not randomly selected, but rather chosen as paid spokespeople.
District Attorney Larry Krasner had filed an emergency petition to block the giveaways, accusing the PAC of running an illegal lottery and misleadingly marketing the prize selections as random. However, the PAC's admission during a hearing on Monday seemed to undermine the idea that the giveaway is a lottery at all.
The PAC, which supports former President Donald Trump, lists two additional giveaways on its site, slated to take place on Monday and Tuesday, with prizes going to voters in Arizona and Michigan, respectively. The judge's reasoning behind denying the emergency injunction is yet to be disclosed, but his findings are expected to be forthcoming.
