HP has made a surprise move at CES 2025, announcing its own Copilot Plus mini PC and all-in-one desktop PCs, which will not be powered by Qualcomm as previously teased. Instead, HP has chosen to partner with AMD for its mini PC, utilizing the company's new Ryzen AI Max chips, and Intel for its all-in-one desktop PCs, featuring the latest Core Ultra 200V series processors.
The OmniStudio X all-in-one desktop PC will come in two variants, a 31.5-inch and a 27-inch model, with the ability to configure the PC with up to Intel Core Ultra 7 258V processors. These powerful chips boast a 47 TOPS NPU, capable of handling Microsoft's latest Copilot Plus PC features. The 31.5-inch model features a 4K IPS panel supporting HDR 600 and up to 550 nits of brightness, although it is not a touchscreen display. Those seeking a touchscreen option will need to opt for the 27-inch model, which comes with a 1080p IPS display capable of reaching up to 300 nits of brightness. A non-touch variant of the 27-inch model is also available, as well as a 4K IPS option that does not support HDR or touch and can reach up to 350 nits.
Both the 31.5-inch and 27-inch models come equipped with built-in speakers and microphones, a five-megapixel IR camera above the display, and a range of ports, including a USB-C 20Gbps port at the rear that supports DisplayPort in and out. This port also enables laptop charging and control. Additional ports include 10Gbps USB-A and USB-C ports at the side, a single USB-C 20Gbps port at the rear, alongside 2 USB-A 10Gbps ports, a single HDMI 1.4 out port, a single HDMI 2.1 in port, an ethernet port, and a headphone jack. Both models also feature Wi-Fi 7 support.
HP's Z2 Mini G1a, touted as the "world's most powerful mini workstation," is a mini PC that packs a punch. Powered by AMD's latest Ryzen AI Max Plus Pro chips, this mini PC supports up to 16 CPU cores, up to 8TB of SSD storage via dual NVMe modules, up to 128GB of unified memory, and the ability to assign up to 96GB of RAM to the GPU for graphical tasks or AI projects. Graphics options include AMD Radeon 8040S, 8050S, and 8060S integrated graphics, with support for up to four 4K monitors. As a Copilot Plus PC, the Z2 Mini G1a can deliver the AI performance required for features like Recall, Click to Do, and AI-powered image generation and editing in Windows 11.
The Z2 Mini G1a mini PC is designed for versatility, featuring a built-in power supply and the ability to be positioned vertically on a desk. It can also be mounted in a rack, with up to five of these mini PCs able to fill a 4U rack. HP will offer a choice of Windows 11 Home or Pro or Ubuntu 24.04 LTS operating systems. The mini PC's port selection is impressive, with a single USB-C 10Gbps port at the side, alongside a USB-A 10Gbps port, and a headphone jack. At the rear, there are two USB-A 10Gbps ports, two USB-C Thunderbolt 4 40Gbps ports with USB Power Delivery and DisplayPort 2.1 support, two USB-A 480Mbps ports, two mini DisplayPort 2.1, and an ethernet port. Optional ports can be added at the top of the rear section, including additional USB-A and USB-C ports and a variety of ethernet ports.
While HP has announced its latest all-in-one and mini PCs, the company has not yet provided release dates or pricing information. As the CES 2025 event continues to unfold, it will be interesting to see how these new devices are received by the tech community and how they will impact the PC hardware landscape.
In conclusion, HP's decision to partner with AMD and Intel for its Copilot Plus-powered mini PC and all-in-one desktop PCs marks a significant shift in the company's strategy. As the tech industry continues to evolve, it will be crucial to monitor how these new devices perform in the market and what implications they may have for the future of PC hardware.
