In a significant move, Apple has introduced ChatGPT integration into its latest software updates, marking a major milestone in the tech giant's artificial intelligence (AI) journey. The integration, available in iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS Sequoia 15.2, brings the power of OpenAI's language model to Apple devices, revolutionizing the way users interact with Siri and access writing tools.
With this update, developers and users alike will have access to a range of features, including integrated writing tools, image cleanup, article summaries, and a typing input for the redesigned Siri experience. Notably, users won't need a separate ChatGPT account or app to access these features, although premium account holders will enjoy unlimited queries.
The integration will serve two primary functions: supplementing Siri's knowledge base and generating text within Writing Tools. Users can opt-in to access ChatGPT individually, and Siri will prompt users to approve access to ChatGPT for certain questions, such as recipes and travel planning. Additionally, users can directly ask Siri to "ask ChatGPT" for assistance.
The update also introduces Compose, a feature that enables users to generate content based on prompts in any app that supports Writing Tools. This joins existing tools like Style and Summary, and is accompanied by Open AI's image generation capabilities, which complement Apple's Image Playground feature.
This significant integration is set to transform the way users interact with Apple devices, and marks a major step forward in the company's AI ambitions.
