HelloFresh Adds 70 Rivian Electric Vans to Fleet, Marking First Major Customer

HelloFresh, a leading meal-kit company, has made a significant move towards sustainability by adding 70 all-electric Rivian vans to its fleet, marking the first major customer to purchase the commercial electric vehicles since Rivian ended its exclusive deal with Amazon.

The addition of these electric vans represents nearly a quarter of HelloFresh's fleet, which has already resulted in an estimated 20,000 gallons of gasoline saved, according to a blog post by the company. This shift to electric has also reduced HelloFresh's CO2 emissions output by 200 tonnes, demonstrating the company's commitment to reducing its environmental impact.

Rivian, the electric vehicle manufacturer, has been working to diversify its customer base since ending its exclusivity deal with Amazon in November 2023. The company spent the following year preparing its commercial fleet line for a broader range of businesses, including building out service infrastructure, digital infrastructure, and collecting feedback from fleet customers through pilots. HelloFresh is the first company to publicly declare itself a customer and incorporate the vans into its fleet.

Rivian has been testing its commercial vans with various potential fleet customers, but HelloFresh is the first to make a public announcement. This deal marks a significant milestone for Rivian as it works to expand its customer base beyond Amazon, which has been its primary customer for commercial vans since 2021.

Amazon, which led a $700 million investment round in Rivian in 2019, ordered 100,000 commercial vans as part of its effort to reduce its climate impact. As of February, Amazon had 20,000 commercial vans produced by Rivian in its fleet. Despite adding new customers like HelloFresh, Rivian will continue to produce vans for Amazon.

The partnership between HelloFresh and Rivian highlights the growing demand for sustainable transportation solutions in the logistics and delivery industry. As companies increasingly focus on reducing their environmental footprint, electric vehicles are becoming an attractive option. This deal could pave the way for more companies to adopt electric fleets, driving growth in the electric vehicle market.

With Rivian's commercial fleet business now open to other companies, the electric vehicle manufacturer is poised to expand its customer base and increase production. As the demand for sustainable transportation solutions continues to grow, Rivian is well-positioned to capitalize on this trend and become a leading player in the electric vehicle market.

In conclusion, HelloFresh's decision to add Rivian's electric vans to its fleet marks a significant step towards sustainability and demonstrates the growing demand for electric vehicles in the logistics industry. As Rivian continues to expand its customer base and increase production, the electric vehicle manufacturer is likely to play a key role in shaping the future of sustainable transportation.
