The base model, which is expected to be released later this year, will reportedly come with primary and ultrawide cameras that match the hardware introduced in the budget Pixel 9A. This means that the camera quality may take a step back compared to the Pixel 9, which has been praised for its exceptional camera performance.
The Pixel 9A's camera hardware, while still capable, is not as impressive as the Pixel 9's. The primary camera on the Pixel 9A features a 12.2-megapixel sensor, compared to the 15.3-megapixel sensor on the Pixel 9. The ultrawide camera on the Pixel 9A also has a lower resolution than the one on the Pixel 9. However, the base Pixel 10 is expected to get a telephoto camera, which is a feature that has been missing from previous base models.
In contrast, the Pixel 10 Pro model is rumored to retain the same camera hardware as the Pixel 9 Pro. This could indicate that Google is relying more on the capabilities of its next-generation Tensor G5 chip to improve photography performance. The Tensor G5 chip is expected to provide significant improvements in terms of processing power and machine learning capabilities, which could help to enhance camera performance even with the same hardware.
The Pixel 10 Pro Fold, which is rumored to have an almost identical design to the previous model, may also get the Pixel 9A's primary shooter. This could be a cost-cutting measure, as the Fold series is already a premium product with a high price tag.
Google has not officially announced the release date for the Pixel 10 series, but based on previous patterns, it's possible that the company could launch the new phones in August. The Pixel 9 lineup was announced in August last year, and the company is set to release the Pixel 9A on April 10th.
The changes to the camera hardware on the Pixel 10 series could have significant implications for Google's strategy in the smartphone market.
