Google Chrome is taking a significant step towards addressing its notorious memory management issues with the introduction of new performance tools. The latest updates aim to help users wrangle out-of-control tabs more easily, ensuring a smoother browsing experience.
The new features include "Performance issue alerts" that notify users when a tab is consuming excessive resources. A small speedometer-like icon appears next to the account thumbnail in the Chrome toolbar, providing users with the option to either dismiss or fix the issue. Clicking on the icon reveals a list of offending tabs, allowing users to take prompt action.
In addition, Chrome's Memory Saver mode has been updated with three new modes: Standard, Balanced, and Advanced. These modes offer varying levels of resource management, with Advanced mode deactivating tabs the fastest after they're no longer in use.
To access the new settings, users can navigate to the "Performance" tab in Chrome's settings, where they'll find the "Performance issue alerts" toggle and updated Memory Saver options.
These updates are a welcome move by Google to address Chrome's memory management issues, which have long been a source of frustration for users. With these new tools, Chrome aims to provide a more efficient and seamless browsing experience, making it an attractive option for users seeking a reliable web browser.
