GOG, a PC game platform, has introduced a preservation program aimed at maintaining and updating classic games to ensure they remain playable on modern systems. The program, which launches with 100 titles, including Diablo and Resident Evil, commits to keeping these retro games compatible with current and future PC configurations.

The move addresses a significant issue in the gaming industry, where many classic games are no longer accessible due to compatibility issues or delisting from storefronts. According to a recent study, 87% of games released before 2010 are no longer playable. GOG's program seeks to acquire and preserve all games no longer updated or maintained by their original publishers, regardless of age.

Games featured in the program will come with additional perks, including access to GOG's Tech Support, offline installers, and the guarantee of the best and most complete version available. This initiative sets GOG apart as one of the few major game platforms taking significant action to preserve video game history and ensure classic games remain accessible to gamers.
