GM and EVgo Reach 2,000 DC Fast-Charging Stalls Milestone, Meeting Year-End Deadline

General Motors and EVgo, a leading electric vehicle (EV) charging company, have reached a significant milestone in their partnership, announcing the installation of their 2,000th public DC fast-charging stall. This achievement meets GM's self-imposed deadline of having the bulk of its planned 2,850 DC fast-charging stalls set up by the end of this year.

The 2,000th charging stall is located in Murrieta, California, near Interstate 215 in Riverside County. This station is equipped with five 350kW fast chargers, capable of supporting up to 10 EVs simultaneously. While GM has not specified whether these chargers include Tesla's NACS ports, which have become the de facto standard in recent years, the company has been asked for further clarification.

This partnership has enabled EVgo to expand its public charging network to over 30 states across the US, with plans to deploy its first flagship destinations next year. These flagship locations will be built out in major metropolitan areas, including Florida, California, Texas, and Michigan, and will feature a gas station-style charging experience.

In addition to this network, GM is also participating in another EV charging network consortium called Ionna, alongside other major car companies such as Hyundai, Kia, BMW, and Stellantis. This consortium aims to further expand public charging infrastructure in the US.

The rapid expansion of public EV charging infrastructure is crucial for widespread adoption of electric vehicles.
