GM and ChargePoint Partner to Install Hundreds of Fast EV Chargers by 2025

General Motors has announced a significant partnership with ChargePoint to accelerate the expansion of its electric vehicle (EV) charging network. The collaboration aims to install up to 500 DC fast-charging ports at strategic locations across the US by the end of 2025, all branded under the GM Energy name. This move marks a substantial investment in the growth of EV infrastructure, supporting the increasing adoption of electric vehicles.

The new charging stations will feature ChargePoint's Express Plus platform, capable of delivering charge speeds of up to 500kW. This technology will enable EV owners to quickly recharge their vehicles, making long-distance travel more practical and convenient. Furthermore, ChargePoint's Omni Port charging hardware will be utilized, allowing vehicles with either CCS or Tesla's NACS ports to charge without the need for adapters.

GM Energy Vice President Wade Sheffer expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, highlighting the benefits of ultra-fast charging, Omni Port technology, and exceptional customer experiences. This collaboration is expected to further drive excitement among EV drivers and those considering electric vehicles.

This partnership is not GM Energy's only venture into EV charging. The company has an ongoing agreement with EVgo, which has already resulted in the installation of 2,000 DC fast chargers as of December. Additionally, GM is working with Flying J and Pilot truck stops to build charging stations, and is a member of the Ionna EV charging consortium, comprising major players like Hyundai, Kia, BMW, and Stellantis.

The expansion of GM's EV charging network is a crucial step in supporting the growing demand for electric vehicles. As the automotive industry continues its shift towards electrification, investments in charging infrastructure are essential to alleviate range anxiety and promote widespread adoption. This partnership demonstrates GM's commitment to providing a comprehensive ecosystem for EV owners, enhancing the overall ownership experience.

With the goal of deploying hundreds of fast EV chargers by 2025, GM and ChargePoint are poised to make a significant impact on the EV landscape. As the network expands, it will be interesting to observe how this collaboration influences the broader electric vehicle market and contributes to a more sustainable transportation future.
