GE Unveils Matter-Compatible Smart Switches, Colorful Lighting, and Luxury Smart Shades

General Electric's (GE) smart home brand, Cync, has announced a slew of new products at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), including Matter-compatible smart switches, vibrant smart lighting, and luxurious smart shades. The new additions are set to roll out over the next few months, starting with the smart switches in March.

The Cync smart switches, specifically the Smart Keypad Dimmer and Smart Paddle Dimmer, mark a departure from the brand's usual quirky design. The keypad dimmer features programmable buttons for scenes or group control and up-and-down buttons for dimming, while the paddle dimmer boasts a sleek, modern design. Both devices support Matter, ensuring seamless integration with major smart home platforms.

One of the significant advantages of the new Cync switches is their enhanced functionality. According to GE, the entire family of switches has been improved, allowing users to maintain smart control even when using a dumb switch on a three-way circuit. This means that users can turn the circuit off with the dumb switch while still utilizing voice commands or scheduled automation with Cync smart bulbs.

In addition to the smart switches, GE has introduced its "Cync Dynamic Effects" category of lights, which includes café lights, outdoor strip lights, and panels. These products boast 16 million colors, tunable white light, music syncing, and addressable LEDs. The café lights, available in 24-foot and 48-foot versions, will start shipping in March, while the strip lights, measuring 16 feet and 32 feet, will arrive in April. Notably, these products lack Matter support and will only work with Google Home or Amazon Alexa.

GE has also ventured into the luxury smart shades market with its Proseo line. These high-end shades require professional installation and can be controlled through the Savant app. Designed to hide wires and screws, the Proseo shades feature modern architectural aesthetics, performance fabrics, and unmatched control interface options, making them ideal for luxury spaces. As custom jobs, these shades come with a premium price tag.

The expansion of GE's Cync ecosystem demonstrates the company's commitment to creating a comprehensive smart home experience. With the introduction of Matter-compatible switches, colorful lighting, and luxurious smart shades, GE is poised to become a significant player in the smart home market. As the smart home industry continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how GE's Cync brand adapts and innovates to meet the changing needs of consumers.
