Xbox Game Studios has announced that Forza Horizon 5, its popular open-world racing game, will be launching on the PlayStation 5 (PS5) this spring. This marks a significant milestone in the game's history, as it will be the first time a Forza Horizon title will be available on a Sony console.
The PS5 version of Forza Horizon 5 will include the same content as its Xbox and PC counterparts, ensuring a seamless gaming experience across all platforms. Moreover, crossplay will be available, allowing players to team up with friends on PS5, Xbox consoles, and PC.
In addition to the PS5 launch, Forza Horizon 5 will also receive a new content update called Horizon Realms on all platforms. According to developer Playground Games, Horizon Realms will give players the opportunity to explore a curated collection of the community's favorite previously released Evolving Worlds, alongside some other surprises.
Forza Horizon 5 originally launched on Xbox and PC in 2021 to critical acclaim. Our former colleague Sam Byford praised it as the "best Forza Horizon yet," and it's likely to be a hit on the PS5 as well. The game's portability features, which allow players to take the game on-the-go, could make it an excellent fit for the PlayStation Portal.
This move is seen as a significant expansion of Xbox Game Studios' reach, as it brings one of its flagship titles to a new audience. The inclusion of crossplay and the Horizon Realms update will likely enhance the gaming experience for players across all platforms.
The announcement has sparked excitement among gamers, who are eagerly anticipating the opportunity to play Forza Horizon 5 on their PS5 consoles. With the spring launch date approaching, fans can expect more updates and details on the game's features and content in the coming weeks.
In the broader context, this move highlights the growing trend of cross-platform play and the increasing importance of expanding gaming ecosystems. As the gaming industry continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how other developers and publishers respond to this shift.
