Nick Pickles, the former top policy chief at X, Elon Musk's social media platform, has taken on a new role as chief policy officer at Tools for Humanity, a company building technology to support World Network (formerly Worldcoin). This move comes despite the ongoing feud between Musk and Sam Altman, co-founder of Tools for Humanity and CEO of OpenAI.
As reported by Reuters, Pickles revealed his new position, expressing optimism about incoming president Donald Trump's tech regulatory proposals. Prior to joining X, Pickles spent years at Twitter, working with regulators to shape proposals and representing the company in global forums. He was promoted to head of global affairs in July.
The tension between Musk and Altman is well-documented, with Musk suing Altman and OpenAI earlier this year for allegedly abandoning the AI startup's nonprofit mission. When asked about the litigation, Pickles declined to comment. Despite this, his move to Tools for Humanity marks an interesting development in the tech policy landscape.
