Ethiopia has officially started building Africa's largest airport, which is expected to be completed by 2030. According to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, the ambitious project will be able to handle 100 million passengers annually and provide parking for 270 aircraft.
The airport, to be built near the town of Bishoftu, 45 km from the capital Addis Ababa, will be linked to existing infrastructure via rail transport. Ethiopian Airlines, the country's flag carrier, has also placed an order for 124 new aircraft as part of the expansion project.
This development is significant for the tech and startup community, as it highlights the growing importance of air transportation infrastructure in Africa. The new airport will not only solidify Ethiopian Airlines' position as the largest aircraft operator in Africa but also provide a boost to the country's economy and connectivity.
