Ecovacs has unveiled its latest robovac, the Deebot X8 Pro Omni, which boasts a unique self-cleaning roller mop that extends outward to clean hard-to-reach spots, such as corners and edges of walls. Unlike other robovacs with extendable mops, the X8 Pro Omni trades circular mop pads for a roller mop that cleans itself while navigating your home.
The robovac's mop applies up to 4,000Pa of pressure and revolves 200 times per minute, ensuring efficient cleaning. Meanwhile, the X8 Pro Omni's vacuum comes with an impressive 18,000Pa suction power and an anti-tangle brush to keep hairs from getting wrapped around the brush. To navigate your home, the robovac uses the new "TrueEdge" 3D sensor, which helps the robovac identify and adapt to different types of edges and baseboards, along with an AI system that recognizes objects like shoes and cables.
The X8 Pro Omni's roller mop is designed to clean closer to corners and walls, making it an attractive option for those with hard-to-reach areas. Additionally, the robovac can be controlled with your voice, making it a convenient addition to any smart home.
However, the launch of the X8 Pro Omni raises security concerns following past hacking incidents. Last year, hackers broke into Ecovacs' systems, allowing them to take over Deebot X2 vacuums and shout slurs and chase pets. Recent reports from ABC Australia also found serious security vulnerabilities with some of Ecovacs' products, which collect photos, videos, and voice recordings if users consent to an AI training program. It remains to be seen how Ecovacs will address these concerns with its latest release.
In addition to the X8 Pro Omni, Ecovacs also showcased its Deebot T50 line, which includes the higher-end T50 Max Pro offering up to 15,000Pa of suction. The T50 Pro Omni features Ecovacs' slimmest design so far, measuring just 81mm (around 3.2 inches), allowing it to easily slip beneath beds and couches. Pricing and availability details for the Deebot T50 lineup will be revealed at a later date.
The Deebot X8 Pro Omni is priced at $1,399.99 and will be available in mid-February. While it boasts impressive features, the security concerns surrounding Ecovacs' products may give potential buyers pause. As the company continues to innovate and expand its product line, it will be important for them to prioritize user security and privacy.
The launch of the X8 Pro Omni highlights the ongoing evolution of robotics in the consumer tech space. As companies like Ecovacs continue to push the boundaries of what is possible with autonomous cleaning, it will be interesting to see how these advancements impact the industry as a whole.
