DJI Unveils Osmo Mobile 7 Pro with Advanced Features and Modular Design

DJI has announced its latest flagship smartphone gimbal, the Osmo Mobile 7 Pro, which takes the concept of mobile filmmaking to new heights. Priced at $149, this feature-packed device is designed to provide users with unparalleled versatility and tracking capabilities.

The Osmo Mobile 7 Pro boasts a range of innovative features, including a built-in tripod that allows users to plop their selfie-stick down onto a surface, a telescoping arm that extends up to eight inches, and a Multifunctional Module with a built-in computer vision camera. This module enables automatic tracking, start and stop filming, and adjusts framing, all with simple hand gestures.

The Multifunctional Module also features a built-in fill light with adjustable color temperature, which can be turned on by holding down the OM7 Pro's side dial. Additionally, it serves as a receiver for DJI's excellent wireless microphones, including the DJI Mic Mini, and can be wirelessly powered through DJI's smartphone clamp.

One of the most significant advantages of the Osmo Mobile 7 Pro is its ability to dramatically reduce the need to use DJI's app for filming. Previous gimbals required the app for tracking, but the OM7 Pro's Multifunctional Module allows users to utilize their phone's built-in camera app and still enjoy autonomous tracking. This feature is particularly useful for Android users, as DJI's Mimo app has historically had issues with multi-lens switching, 4K60 recording, and electronic image stabilization.

In terms of battery life, the Osmo Mobile 7 Pro features an upsized 12.06 watt-hour battery, which DJI claims will provide up to 10 hours of battery life. However, with the Multifunctional Module's tracking feature enabled, battery life is reduced to five hours, and to four hours with the fill light on.

Other notable features of the Osmo Mobile 7 Pro include a 1/4-inch tripod screw hole, allowing users to mount it to other devices, and a USB-C port for topping up their phone. DJI will also be offering a magnetic quick-release adapter, which will enable users to plop phones directly onto the gimbal, although this adapter won't be compatible with the Multifunctional Module.

In addition to the Osmo Mobile 7 Pro, DJI has also announced a budget-friendly Osmo Mobile 7, priced at $89. This model comes in white, features a pull-out tripod, but lacks the telescoping selfie-stick and Multifunctional Module. Both devices are available for purchase on DJI's website, starting today.

The Osmo Mobile 7 Pro's advanced features and modular design are likely to appeal to users who want more versatility and tracking capabilities from their smartphone gimbal. While DJI's Osmo Pocket 3 remains a popular choice for those seeking a more compact and high-quality camera, the Osmo Mobile 7 Pro offers a unique set of features that set it apart from its competitors.
