DJI Unveils Autonomous Drone-in-a-Box Solution with Mobile Launch Capability

DJI has taken its drone-in-a-box solution to the next level with the introduction of the Dock 3, a compact and weather-resistant system that can launch autonomous drones from moving vehicles. This marks a significant upgrade to the company's previous iterations, offering enhanced flexibility and capabilities for enterprise customers.

The DJI Dock 3 is designed to work seamlessly with the company's new Matrice 4D and Matrice 4TD drones, which were launched earlier this year. These drones feature advanced capabilities, including ant-ice propeller blades, 47-minute flight times, and a combination of wide-angle, medium tele, and telephoto cameras. The Matrice 4TD also boasts expanded nighttime capabilities with an infrared thermal camera and a near-infrared auxiliary light.

The Dock 3 itself is a compact system that can fit in the back of a pickup truck, making it ideal for transportation and deployment in various environments. It features a built-in weather station, antennas, surveillance cameras, and an internal backup battery, ensuring reliable operation even in harsh conditions. The system can be upgraded with a cellular 4G dongle for remote deployment, and its operational temperature range has been expanded to as hot as 50°C or as cold as -30°C, with preheating required for extremely cold temperatures.

One of the most significant advancements of the Dock 3 is its ability to launch drones from moving vehicles using an optional gimbal mount accessory. This feature enables drones to be deployed quickly and efficiently, even in situations where stopping the vehicle is not possible. Although the cost of this accessory has not been disclosed, the Dock 3 will be available in two bundles priced for enterprise customers, with the Matrice 4D drone bundle costing $21,059 and the Matrice 4TD drone bundle costing $23,409.

The Dock 3's communication range has also been extended, allowing it to connect with drones on missions up to 10 kilometers away. This range can be further extended to 25 kilometers for fixed deployments, such as on a high-rise building, using relays mounted at elevated locations. However, it is essential to note that local jurisdictions may have specific regulations governing drone operation, and operators may require a Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) waiver for remote operation at extended distances.
