At this year's Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2025), Davy Robot's Datic 1 stole the spotlight with its innovative AI-powered basketball companion. This portable robot is designed to be your personal one-on-one partner, rebounding the ball after each shot, allowing you to practice your skills without the need for a human opponent.
The Datic 1 system is surprisingly portable, weighing around 33 pounds, and can be easily wheeled under a hoop. Once in place, the robot's arms extend upward, accompanied by a net that can be adjusted to the standard 10-foot height. Using machine vision and AI, the robot tracks the shooter, swiveling its head to return the ball with precision.
At CES, attendees were able to test the Datic 1 on a lower-than-regulation hoop, but the final version promises to deliver a more authentic basketball experience. With its ability to track and respond to shots, this robot has the potential to revolutionize the way we practice and improve our basketball skills.
Davy Robot has announced plans to launch the Datic 1 on Kickstarter in June, with a price tag of $1,000. While this may seem steep, the convenience and effectiveness of having a personal basketball partner at your beck and call could be well worth the investment for serious basketball enthusiasts.
The implications of this technology extend beyond the basketball court. The use of machine vision and AI in the Datic 1 demonstrates the potential for robots to assist and augment human activity in various domains. As robotics continues to advance, we can expect to see more innovative applications of AI-powered robots in the future.
