In a shocking revelation, Assaf Rappaport, CEO and co-founder of cybersecurity firm Wiz, disclosed that his company was recently targeted by a deepfake attack. Speaking at TechCrunch Disrupt in San Francisco, Rappaport shared that dozens of his employees received a voice message purportedly from him, attempting to phish their credentials.
The attack was cleverly crafted using audio from a public speaking engagement, but the employees were able to detect the fake due to Rappaport's distinct voice pattern, which differs from his everyday tone due to public speaking anxiety. Although the company was able to trace the audio source, they were unable to identify the perpetrator.
Rappaport emphasized the concerning aspect of cyber attacks, stating that the risk of getting caught is extremely low for attackers. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the evolving threat landscape, even for companies specializing in cybersecurity.
In a separate note, Rappaport also discussed Wiz's decision to turn down a $23 billion acquisition offer from Google, citing the vast potential of the cloud security market, which he estimates to be a $100 billion opportunity.
