ClickUp Revamps Calendar Tool with AI-Powered Meeting Notetaker and Time Blocking

Productivity platform ClickUp has unveiled a revamped calendar tool that integrates tasks, documents, chats, and meetings in one place, with two standout features: an AI-powered meeting notetaker and AI-driven time blocking for tasks. This move marks a significant shift in the company's focus towards personal productivity in the workplace, putting tasks at the forefront.

The new calendar tool is built upon ClickUp's acquisition of calendar startup Hypercal last year, which has enabled the company to leverage parts of that acquisition to create a more comprehensive product. Unlike its predecessor, which was focused on team management and scheduling, the revamped calendar is designed to streamline individual productivity.

One of the most exciting features of the new calendar is the AI-powered meeting notetaker, which can join meetings, take structured notes, transcribe the meeting, and even automatically assign action items and tasks to teammates. This functionality is reminiscent of other AI assistants like Read AI, Zoom's AI assistant, Circleback, Granola, or Otter. In a survey conducted by ClickUp, a staggering 71% of respondents expressed comfort in sending a proxy or an AI assistant to a meeting on their behalf.

ClickUp's founder and CEO, Zeb Evans, explained that the company's AI tool is trained to pick up different signals from a person's integrations, such as a GitHub assignee, and tune the prioritization algorithm accordingly. This enables the AI assistant to provide more accurate and relevant support to users.

In addition to the AI meeting notetaker, the calendar tool also features AI-powered time blocking for tasks. Users can add tasks to a queue, and the calendar will automatically block time slots for them based on their schedule. The calendar can also dynamically adjust due dates based on schedule and priority level changes. Alternatively, users can manually drag and drop tasks in the calendar view and adjust pre-assigned priority levels.

ClickUp's goal is to become an all-in-one productivity platform, offering a comprehensive suite of tools for users. With the revamped calendar, the company is taking a significant step towards achieving this vision. The platform already boasts task management and project management capabilities, and the addition of meeting note-taking and AI-powered scheduling further solidifies its position in the productivity space.

The launch of ClickUp's revamped calendar comes at a time when other platforms are also expanding their offerings to become more useful to individual workers. For instance, Read AI recently introduced a search copilot to enable users to search across meeting notes, Google Drive, One Drive, calendar, Microsoft Teams, Gmail, Salesforce, Jira, and more. Atlassian's Trello, which primarily focused on project management, introduced new features for personal task organization last month.

Evans believes that the convergence of various tools in one place gives ClickUp an advantage over specialized tools. "I believe that all software in a few years will converge, and this is what we believed when we started ClickUp. We think that work management and collaboration communication categories would converge together, and that's how our product is built. There is no separate app within our product. It's all one thing," he said.

As the productivity landscape continues to evolve, ClickUp's revamped calendar tool is poised to make a significant impact on the way individuals work and manage their tasks. With its AI-powered features and seamless integration with other tools, ClickUp is well-positioned to become a go-to platform for personal productivity in the workplace.
