CES 2025 Kicks Off: AI, Automotive, and Robotics Take Center Stage

The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2025 officially kicks off on Tuesday morning in Las Vegas, running through January 10. While the "official" dates are specific to when the floor of the Las Vegas Convention Center is open to attendees, the show's true duration is much longer, with a pair of press days starting on Sunday and featuring a slew of press conferences on January 6.

Among the highly anticipated press conferences is AMD's, scheduled for Monday at 11 a.m. PT/2 p.m. ET. The company faces stiff competition from Nvidia, which has been dominating the AI boom. AMD is expected to showcase its next-gen GPU, potentially rebranded as the RX 8000 or RX 9000 series, to compete with Nvidia's reported RTX 5000 announcement.

Toyota's press conference, set for Monday at 4 p.m. PT/7 p.m. ET, is also highly anticipated. The company's Chairman, Akio Toyoda, is expected to provide updates on Woven City, its "living laboratory" project. Details are scarce, but TechCrunch expects to see how startups will be incorporated into Woven City and whether Toyota has made progress on its plans to build a fully connected ecosystem powered by hydrogen fuel cells.

Samsung's press conference, scheduled for Monday at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET, is expected to focus on TVs and appliances, with the company adopting the tagline "AI for All: Everyday, Everywhere" for the presentation. Meanwhile, Nvidia's press conference, set for Monday at 6:30 p.m. PT/9:30 p.m. ET, is likely to be one of the biggest draws, given the company's foundational position in the AI boom.

Notable keynotes on the following day include Twitter/X CEO Linda Yaccarino at 1:30 p.m. PT and Delta CEO Ed Bastian at 5 p.m. PT, which will be available to stream on the official CES YouTube page.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is expected to be the hot topic at CES 2025, with many products and companies incorporating AI in some form. This is not new for CES, which has featured AI-powered consumer devices in previous years. However, this year's show is likely to see an even greater emphasis on AI, with companies like Nvidia and AMD going head-to-head on the chip front.

The automotive industry is also expected to play a significant role at CES 2025, with companies like Toyota, Sony, and Hyundai showcasing their latest developments in electric and autonomous vehicles. Robotics, too, is becoming an increasingly important focus point for CES, with companies like Hyundai and Sony highlighting their work in this area.

Other trends to watch at CES 2025 include the continued growth of computer monitors, smart appliances, and smart home devices. After an extended lull, smart home devices are expected to make a comeback, driven by advancements in interoperability through the Matter standard and the explosion of generative AI platforms.

Extended reality (XR) is also expected to be a major topic at CES 2025, although the technology still has a lot to prove. Despite the hype, XR has yet to gain widespread adoption, and companies like Apple, Meta, and HTC are still working to make a significant impact in the space.

Overall, CES 2025 promises to be an exciting and informative event, with top tech companies showcasing their latest developments in AI, automotive, robotics, and more. Stay tuned for further updates and insights from the show floor.
