Cadillac has announced its latest addition to the electric vehicle market: the Escalade IQL, a longer and more spacious version of its popular Escalade IQ electric SUV. With an overall length of 228.5 inches, the IQL surpasses the length of the longest gas-powered Escalade and becomes the longest SUV in production, electric or gas-powered.
The IQL's longer body is designed to provide more luggage space and legroom for third-row passengers. Compared to the regular IQ, the IQL adds 4 inches of legroom (from 32.3 inches to 36.7) and an additional inch of headroom (from 37.2 inches to 38.2). The new rear design also accommodates slightly bigger suitcases and more stackable space.
In terms of cargo space, the IQL offers 24.2 cu.ft. of space behind the third row and 75.4 cu.ft. with the third-row folded flat. This is an increase from the standard IQ's 23.7 cu.ft. behind the third row and 69.1 cu.ft. with it folded. The IQL also features an "eTrunk" under the hood, providing an additional 12.2 cu.ft. of cargo space.
The Escalade IQL is powered by a 205kWh battery pack, which provides an advertised 460 miles of range. The SUV can gain up to 116 miles of range in a 10-minute charge on 350kW DC fast chargers. The IQL is set to go into production at GM's Factory Zero plant in Detroit starting mid-2025.
The original Escalade IQ electric SUV was revealed in 2023, featuring a 55-inch pillar-to-pillar infotainment screen running Android Automotive OS. The IQL builds upon this foundation, offering a more spacious and practical option for customers.
The introduction of the Escalade IQL marks a significant milestone in the electric vehicle market, as manufacturers continue to push the boundaries of what is possible with electric powertrains. With its increased cargo space and range, the IQL is poised to appeal to customers seeking a more practical and environmentally friendly SUV option.
As the electric vehicle market continues to grow, it will be interesting to see how other manufacturers respond to Cadillac's latest offering. Will the IQL set a new standard for electric SUVs, or will competitors rise to the challenge? Only time will tell.
