Botswana Sees Historic Shift in Power as Opposition Wins Election

In a historic shift, Botswana's opposition party, the Coalition Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC), has won the presidential election, ending the 6-decade rule of the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP). This change in power could have significant implications for the business and tech landscape in the country.

Duma Boko, leader of the UDC, won 28 out of 61 seats in parliament, while the BDP, led by President Mokgweetsi Masisi, secured only 3 seats. The Botswana Congress Party and Botswana Patriotic Front won 8 and 6 seats, respectively.

The election results mark a significant shift in power and could lead to changes in the country's economic and business policies, potentially creating new opportunities for startups and entrepreneurs. The new government's stance on technology and innovation will be closely watched by the tech community.
