Audi has taken the wraps off its latest electric off-road vehicle concept, the Q6 E-tron Off-road, which is designed to tackle the toughest winter driving conditions. The concept, based on the Q6 E-tron, features a lifted stance, increased torque, and a combined power output of 380kW, making it a formidable force on snowy terrain.

The Q6 E-tron Off-road concept boasts a 6.3-inch lift and 9.8-inch widened stance, giving it a rugged appearance that wouldn't be out of place in the American off-road scene. According to Audi's CEO, Gernot Döllner, the concept is a "reinterpretation of Quattro," the company's marketing term for its all-wheel-drive models.

The secret to the concept's impressive off-road capabilities lies in its four bespoke portal axles, integrated into the wheel hub assemblies at the front and rear. These axles increase torque at the wheel by 50%, allowing the vehicle to climb hills as steep as 45 degrees. The dual-motor electric powertrain produces a combined 380kW and up to 9,883 lb-ft of torque at its peak, a significant increase from the standard Q6 E-tron's 3,245 lb-ft of torque.

While the top speed has been reduced to 108 mph, Audi's decision to nerf the speed is a pragmatic one, considering the vehicle's lifted stance and off-road focus. The Q6 E-tron Off-road concept is a more realistic and practical take on electric off-road vehicles, unlike some of Audi's more futuristic concepts, such as the Activesphere coupe/pickup truck combo or the apocalyptic all-terrain "AI:Trail" with drones for headlights.

The Q6 E-tron Off-road concept will make its debut at the FAT International Ice Race in Austria on February 1st, with Audi also showcasing the vehicle's capabilities via its social media channels.
