ASUS has taken the concept of a "fragrant" computing experience to a new level with the announcement of its 'Fragrance Mouse', a wireless mouse that features a refillable compartment for essential oils. The unusual accessory is set to launch in the US in late April or early May, according to a company spokesperson.
The Fragrance Mouse, which will be available in Iridescent White or Rose Clay finishes, boasts a standard wireless mousing layout with two buttons and a scroll wheel. However, its unique selling point lies in the small compartment on its underside, which can be loaded with essential oils of the user's choice. This feature is reminiscent of the Aidol 14 Air Fragrance Edition laptop, which was introduced in July 2024 and features a magnetically-attached oil diffuser in its lid.
While the laptop has only been released in China, the Fragrance Mouse is expected to make its way to the US market. Unfortunately, it seems that users may not be able to purchase a complete "stinky" laptop and mouse set, as the Aidol 14 Air Fragrance Edition is currently only available in China. ASUS has not provided pricing details for the Fragrance Mouse.
In terms of technical specifications, the Fragrance Mouse connects wirelessly over Bluetooth or a 2.4GHz wireless USB dongle and offers adjustable DPI settings of 1200dpi, 1600dpi, and 2400dpi. It is powered by a single AA battery, which is housed alongside the wireless USB dongle and aromatic oils in a compartment on the mouse's underside.
The launch of the Fragrance Mouse raises questions about the potential market demand for such a unique accessory. While some users may appreciate the ability to customize their computing experience with their favorite essential oils, others may view the feature as a gimmick. Nevertheless, ASUS's willingness to experiment with innovative designs is a testament to the company's commitment to pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the world of technology.
As the tech industry continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how consumers respond to the Fragrance Mouse and whether it will inspire other manufacturers to explore similar concepts. One thing is certain – ASUS has once again managed to generate buzz with its unconventional approach to product design.
