Apple has officially announced the latest additions to its iPad lineup, introducing new 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Air models powered by the M3 chip. The new devices, available for pre-order starting Tuesday, will hit the market on March 12, offering enhanced performance and features for users.
The new iPad Air models come in four colors and are priced at $599 for the 11-inch version and $799 for the 13-inch variant. While the M3 chip may not be the latest and greatest from Apple, the company claims that the iPad Air with M3 is nearly 2x faster compared to the iPad Air with M1, and up to 3.5x faster than the iPad Air with A14 Bionic.
Notably, Apple's performance comparisons are based on older iPad models, rather than the iPad Air with M2 chip launched last year. This has raised some eyebrows, with many wondering why the company chose not to provide a more direct comparison to its latest predecessor.
Alongside the new iPad Air models, Apple is also introducing an updated Magic Keyboard designed to enhance the overall user experience. The new keyboard features a larger trackpad, a 14-key function row for easy access to features like screen brightness and volume controls, and a machined aluminum hinge with a USB-C connector for charging. The Magic Keyboard attaches magnetically, allowing for seamless connectivity via the Smart Connector, eliminating the need for Bluetooth.
According to Bob Borchers, Apple's vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing, the new iPad Air with M3, Apple Intelligence, and the updated Magic Keyboard are designed to take "versatility and value to the next level" for users ranging from college students to travelers and content creators. With the iPad Air's reputation for powerful productivity on the go, these enhancements are likely to appeal to a wide range of customers.
The introduction of these new iPad Air models and the updated Magic Keyboard marks a significant development in Apple's tablet lineup, as the company continues to refine and improve its products to meet the evolving needs of its users. As the market continues to shift towards more portable and powerful devices, Apple's latest offerings are likely to be a major player in the tablet space.
