In a significant move, Apple has released a new feature in its iOS 18.2 beta that allows users to customize their default apps beyond just web browsers and email clients. The latest update, available to developer beta users, introduces a dedicated menu for managing default apps, giving users more control over their iPhone experience.
The new menu, accessible through the Settings app, enables users to select their preferred apps for tasks such as opening web links, sending emails, making contactless payments, and even making calls and sending messages. This marks a significant expansion of Apple's default app customization options, which were previously limited to email and browser apps.
The menu also provides a convenient way to view and manage password and keyboard apps, allowing users to easily select which apps they want to access while filling in passwords or typing in text.
While this feature is currently only available to iOS 18.2 beta users, it is expected to roll out to a wider user base in the coming weeks. This move is likely to be welcomed by users who value flexibility and customization in their mobile experience.
