Apple users who had previously disabled Apple Intelligence may need to take action again, as the latest software updates have been reported to reactivate the feature. According to user reports and developer Jeff Johnson, updating to iOS 18.3.1 or macOS 15.3.1 can turn Apple Intelligence back on, even if it was previously disabled.
This issue has been observed in users who updated from iOS 18.3 or macOS 15.3, which were the first sets of updates to enable Apple Intelligence by default. The problem has been reported on MacRumors and Reddit, with users noting that they see the Apple "Welcome" screen after updating and have to turn Apple Intelligence off again. Johnson, a developer, also experienced inconsistent results, with the feature turning on for one laptop but not another while installing the same update.
It's worth noting that not all devices have been affected, and our own testing did not result in Apple Intelligence turning back on. However, users who do not want the feature on their devices should check their settings after updating. To turn Apple Intelligence off, users can head to Settings (or System Settings on a Mac), then scroll to Apple Intelligence & Siri, where the toggle should be located at the top of the page.
The next scheduled update, iOS 18.4, is expected to bring more significant features, including an improved Siri and deeper AI integration. This has sparked interest in the tech community, with many wondering what other changes Apple has in store for its AI capabilities.
Apple has not yet commented on the issue, but we have reached out to the company for clarification and will update this post if we receive any additional information. In the meantime, users should be aware of the potential for Apple Intelligence to reactivate after updating and take steps to disable it if desired.
This development highlights the ongoing evolution of Apple's AI features and the importance of user awareness when it comes to software updates. As the tech giant continues to push the boundaries of artificial intelligence, users will need to stay informed about the implications of these changes on their devices and personal data.
