Apple has finally brought its desktop accessories in line with the EU's mandate to adopt USB-C, ditching the Lightning port in its Magic Mouse, Magic Keyboard, and Magic Trackpad. The move comes alongside the announcement of an M4 refresh to the iMac, which won't start shipping until November 8. The new accessories, available in black and white, can be purchased now and shipped immediately, with color-matched versions set to ship with the new iMac.
Priced the same as their Lightning predecessors, the USB-C versions of the Magic Keyboard with Touch ID and numeric keypad, Magic TrackPad, and Magic Mouse will set customers back $199, $149, and $99, respectively. While the devices themselves remain largely unchanged, the switch to USB-C marks a significant step towards a more standardized and user-friendly experience.
The announcement is the first in a series of reveals promised by Apple this week, with rumors swirling around a new Mac Mini that's said to be roughly the same size as Apple TV. As the tech giant continues to adapt to changing regulatory landscapes and user demands, this move is likely to have a ripple effect throughout the industry.
