Anker's 58-Liter Solar Fridge Review: A Noisy Power-Monster with Impressive Capacity

Anker has launched its latest solar fridge, the 58-liter Solix EverFrost 2, which boasts an impressive capacity and dual-zone temperature control. However, in a recent review, the fridge was found to be a noisy power-monster that may not be suitable for all users.

The Solix EverFrost 2 has a massive 58-liter capacity, making it one of the largest portable solar fridges on the market. It features two fully independent temperature zones, allowing users to control the temperature of both the fridge and freezer compartments separately. The fridge can be powered by a standard wall socket, 12V car socket, USB-C charger, or up to 100W of solar power from a traditional panel or Anker's new beach umbrella.

Despite its impressive capacity, the Solix EverFrost 2 has some significant drawbacks. The fridge is extremely noisy, with a maximum decibel level of 41 decibels when initially cooling down. This can be exhausting to the ears over time, especially in small spaces. Additionally, the fridge is power-hungry, consuming 452Wh over a 24-hour period when in "smart" power mode. This is significantly higher than its competitors, making it less suitable for off-grid use.

The fridge's design also has some limitations. The two large fan housings in each lid take up precious space, reducing the overall usable capacity of the fridge. The lack of baskets or shelves also makes it difficult to organize items inside the fridge. Anker has promised to release individual baskets for $19.99 starting in May, but this may not be enough to address the issue.

In terms of performance, the Solix EverFrost 2 can get rather loud compared to other portable fridges, and it's not particularly fast. It took 56 minutes for the 58L Anker to drop from room temperature to -11C, which is more than twice as long as the smaller 38L EcoFlow when performing the same test.

Despite its limitations, the Solix EverFrost 2 may still be a good option for users who need a large capacity solar fridge and have easy access to power. The discounted preorder price of $799.99 makes it a more attractive option, especially for those who don't mind the noise and power consumption. However, for users who prioritize power efficiency and quiet operation, there may be better options available.

In conclusion, the Anker Solix EverFrost 2 is a massive solar fridge with impressive capacity, but its noisy operation and power-hungry design may be a turn-off for some users. While it may still be a good option for certain users, it's essential to weigh the pros and cons before making a purchase.
