Ampler, a pioneering e-bike manufacturer, has announced a breakthrough in e-bike technology with the launch of the Nova and Nova Pro models, which can be charged via a USB-C port integrated into the frame. This innovative feature allows users to charge their e-bikes using a standard USB-C PD 3.1 laptop charger, eliminating the need for proprietary connectors and reducing electronic waste.

The Estonia-based company, known for its reliable direct-to-consumer e-bikes, has designed the Nova series to cater to the European market, where USB-C is becoming the standard charging port. The e-bikes can be charged from zero to full in just three hours using a 140W USB-C PD 3.1 charger, making them an attractive option for commuters and environmentally conscious riders.

The Nova and Nova Pro models feature 48V 336Wh integrated batteries, which can be removed for servicing only. The e-bikes are compatible with a range of USB-C chargers, including those from Ikea and MacBook, and Ampler offers its own 140W USB-C PD 3.1 charger for €80 (approximately $87) for those who don't already have a compatible charger. The USB-C port on the Nova series is bidirectional, allowing riders to charge their USB-C gadgets at a modest 15W.

The Nova and Nova Pro e-bikes are available in step-through and step-over frames in three sizes, accommodating most riders. They feature EU standard 250W motors, which max out at a basic 25km/h. The base Nova model comes with wide 27.5-inch tires, an oily chain, and a derailleur for its nine-speed transmission. The Nova Pro, on the other hand, boasts slightly larger 28-inch wheels, a Gates Carbon belt drive, and a 10-speed Shimano Deore drivetrain baked into the hub.

Both models are available for preorder in the UK, EU, and Switzerland, with shipping set to begin in June. Ampler has established a network of official service centers in Germany and "Ampler Friendly" workshops across Europe, providing riders with peace of mind and easy access to maintenance and repairs. Each bike comes with a two-year warranty and a 14-day return policy.
