The survey, which interviewed nearly 146,000 adults in 142 countries, found that more than a third of Africans want to move permanently to live somewhere else, driven by economic hardship and the hope for better opportunities.

The top 10 countries with the highest push for migration in Africa are Liberia, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Congo, Nigeria, Gambia, Comoros, Togo, Eswatini, and Guinea, with at least half of the population in these countries desiring migration to another region. This trend is not unique to Africa, as citizens from other regions, including migrant-receiving countries like the United States and Canada, are also seeking better opportunities elsewhere.
