7 Cool Indie Games Unveiled at GDC 2025

The Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2025 has come to a close, and while the event was dominated by the likes of Nintendo Switch 2 and Grand Theft Auto VI, a slew of innovative indie games stole the spotlight. From shooters that create worlds to puzzle games that defy gravity, these smaller titles are set to make a big impact in the gaming industry.

Among the standout titles was Dreams of Another, a shooter that lets players create the world around them instead of destroying it. The game's dreamy, deconstructed graphics and unexpected twists, such as a shootout against a sentient manhole cover, left a lasting impression.

Faraway, a game where players control a shooting star, was another highlight. This celestial game of connect the dots requires precision and timing, but its simplicity belies its addictive nature. In just a 10-minute demo, the game's charm and challenge were evident.

Haste: Broken Worlds, a 3D take on the classic mobile game Tiny Wings, offers a roguelike structure and procedurally generated levels. Players control Zoe, a girl who runs at blinding speed, and must time her jumps and falls to achieve perfection. The game's free demo is already available on Steam.

Herdling, a game about herding mysterious, fluffy beasts, tasks players with coaxing the creatures out of a dark city and into wilder pastures. The game's magic stick and adorable beasts make for a charming experience, despite the occasional frustration of getting the herd to follow directions.

Hotel Barcelona, a collaboration between Goichi "Suda51" Suda and Hidetaka "Swery65" Suehiro, is a roguelike game set in a world inspired by slasher movies. The game's twitchy action and feature to fight alongside a ghost image of previous runs make it a challenging and satisfying experience.

My Arms Are Longer Now, a slapstick comedy game, lets players control an unseemly long and stretchy arm as they attempt to steal items from passengers on a moving train. The game's absurdity and puzzle elements make it a must-watch.

Finally, To a T, a game about a teenager permanently stuck in a T pose, offers a delightful and wacky experience. From tooth-brushing sequences to musical numbers and a talking giraffe, the game's creator, Katamari series creator Keita Takahashi, has outdone himself. The game's May 28th release date is highly anticipated.

These indie games may not have the same level of hype as their bigger counterparts, but they showcase the creativity and innovation that the gaming industry has to offer. With their unique mechanics and quirky charm, they are sure to make a lasting impact on the gaming community.

As the gaming industry continues to evolve, it's clear that indie games will play a significant role in shaping its future. With GDC 2025 behind us, gamers can look forward to a year filled with innovative and exciting titles that will push the boundaries of what gaming can be.
